MY LATEST STORY
Resolving the border dispute under a new Thai government

As Abhisit Vejjajiva became Thailand’s new prime minister in December 2008, I looked at what his nomination could mean for relations and solving the border dispute, as he reproached the previous government for being too lenient on Cambodia. doc

MY TOP FIVE
Flooded in Doubt

In September 2006, I reported from New Orleans with a photographer and TV reporter on the recovery of the city after Hurricane Katrina and the ensuing flood. I kept a blog during the trip, wrote a longer narrative upon my return and coordinated a multimedia package. doc mp3 blog

Villagers Say Forced To Join Army

Acceptance or Exclusion?

This feature explores the experience of gays who were raised Catholic but left the church because of its stance on homosexuality, and examines a document that had just been issued by Catholic bishops calling for more acceptance. This story earned me a national first place for feature writing in the 2006 Mark of Excellence Awards. doc

1980s Thai-Lao Border Conflict Bears Resemblance to Preah Vihear Dispute

Border disputes abound in Southeast Asia. In the 1980s, Thailand and Laos fought a war over their own border. This piece of historical analysis compares the situation then to that of Thailand and Cambodia today. doc

Gov. Blunt sued over canceled contracts

An example of a breaking news story. I currently work as an editor, but one night a writer was needed so I switched hats. This story is about a lawsuit filed against Missouri’s governor. Initially published online and in the paper the next day, my story was the first in the state. AP and competing newspapers picked it up later. doc
